[News] Government still open to Kidex Highway alternatives
The government remains open to alternatives for the development of the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) including the possibility of building it underground, reported The Star.
“If there are private investors who are willing to do it and it is viable to the public – we will consider,” said Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusuf.
“But the initial studies have shown that it is expensive and not many are willing to do that.”
Kidex is a 14.9kilometre expressway which links the Damansara–NKVE Interchange of the New Klang Valley Expressway in the north to Bandar Kinrara in the south.
He revealed that the development of the Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway (DASH) will proceed, with the Kidex Highway as the only “missing link”.
“DASH and SUKE (Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated) highway have got the clearance and will proceed. We need to have ring roads – both inner and outer ring roads to have alternatives to get in and out of KL. Kidex is the missing link,” he said.
The 20.1km DASH is a three-lane, dual carriageway expressway which starts at the Puncak Perdana U10 Shah Alam intersection, serving as a link for Alam Suria, Puncak Perdana, Kampung Melayu Subang, Denai Alam, RRIM, Jalan Sungai Buloh, Damansara Perdana, Mutiara Damansara and Kota Damansara. It will end at Penchala interchange, connecting road users to LDP and SPRINT highways.
Featuring 12 interchanges along its alignment, DASH is expected to support the rapid development along its alignment, which covers U10 Shah Alam, Kota Damansara, Subang and Damansara areas.
At 31.8km, the SUKE is a three-lane, dual carriageway expressway which will start at Sri Petaling, passing through Sungai Besi, Cheras-Kajang, Alam Damai, Taman Putra, Taman Bukit Permai, Taman Dagang Permai, Taman Permai Jaya, Taman Kosas and Ampang dan Taman Hillview and exits at Ulu Kelang.
It will serve as a link between existing major roads and highways – MRR II, AKLEH, DUKE, Sungai Besi extension, KLORR, Cheras-Kajang, KL-Seremban, KESAS, Jalan Ampang and Besraya.
